Weather has improved a bit here and I was able to capture Saturn 4 days before opposition.
The rings a very bright now due to the Seeliger (Opposition) Effect.
The polar hexagon and dark spot is very distinct. The belts are very distinct.
There are some low contrast bright spots on the belts.

Unfortunately I have not managed to spend as much time on Saturn as I would have liked over the last month.
However,I am trying to cover the opposition as best I can over the next week or so.

With Saturn opposition occurring today, this email seems rather well timed!
Here is Saturn captured using the 105cm F/17 Cassegrain at Pic du Midi on June 11th by a team of seven observers, including Myself.
We just returned from three nights at the observatory where we obtained many fine images of various planetary targets. Seeing conditions were mostly excellent each night.
This Saturn may well be the sharpest ground based image of the planet ever obtained. Rarely seen details are observed (such as small ringlets with Ring C,including the Maxwell and Colombo divisions.) The Encke division is easily observed around the entire A ring. Note the strong blue colouration of the southern hemisphere shining through the Cassini division.

Perhaps most remarkable of all is this result was obtained with Saturn just 24〓 above the horizon - a testament to the exceptional seeing conditions at the observatory. In 20yrs of imaging never have i seen the image so stable with the planet so low in the sky. Even by the time it has dropped to 17〓 the image was still excellent.
A big thank you to Marc Delcroix and Francois Colas for arranging this mission.
