解説(安達)/ Comment by Makoto Adachi
The sunny part of the SPC was south of Argyre, south of Aonius, but a new and sunny part began in the south of Nochis.
Mr. Mishina's image is very close to Mars seen with the naked eye. In IR it is treated as black, but in reality it is as dense as this.
Looking at the whole, the northern hemisphere is brighter than the southern hemisphere, and it is divided into two parts. The dust storm
spreading northwest of Hellas has become faint and spreading.

I am using an 805nm filter now on Mars,a slightly longer wavelength than I was using before.
On the 19th,Mare Sirenum is the dark area in the middle south, but the area now doesn’t look like it does on maps at all. Olympus Mons in the N looks dark.

Here's an IR image of Mars from this morning in reasonable seeing.
Valles Marineris is the bright horizontal feature rising at left,South polar region at bottom.
The visible features appear pretty much identical to yesterdays image in the same IR channel.
The seeing today was perhaps slightly worse.

昨夜とほぼ同位置のCMです。シーイングが悪くて比較にならないかもしれません。

The best I could get out of Jetstream and poor seeing conditions last night.
RGB data was too poor.

Images taken at Pic du Midi (acquisition by Emil Kraaikamp,
I ama sure he will process later the data better than this) with a C14 (probably with a non optimal optical setup) at a mere 21° elevation.
Mars with its relief rather well visible now,Mare Cimmerum and Sirenum at meridian,
Olympus Mons and the three Tharsis volcanoes setting. South polar cap is still covered partially by dust. Here are the infrared and RGB images:

Pete Lawrence and myself spent a week at the Lowell Observatory- although it is the Monsoon season we did manage to get two clear nights during which time we were able to observe the Red Planet.
It was really something to be able to observe with this delightful old telescope!
Attached here are my drawings I made on 19th July with the 24 inch Clark Refractor- I'm delighted to report that I didn't see any canals!
I did however make my first direct observation of Mars' satellites Deimos and Phobos- I've never seen them with a telescope before and this seemed like a good telescope to use for the purpose!
The main feature present on the disk is Syrtis Major- normally a striking feature I found it quite hard to pull out much in the way of fine structure. Similarly the Hellas basin was more subdued than usual.
Hellespontus was rather dark and the Lowell band joining the region was also darker. To the far north,Boreosyrtis could be seen just above the north polar hood.
