解説(安達)/ Comment by Makoto Adachi

The rainy season is finally over in Japan. It is wonderful that there were many observation reports. I received reports from 17 people.
Mr. Paul Abel is the same visual observer as I. It is difficult to observe the position and shape of the sketch around the SPC.
Even veterans are confused by the low contrast patterns this year. This season's observations are a daunting task for visual observers.
Mr. Eric Sussenbach's image nicely records the dust storm spreading north of the SPC due to the edge dust storm from the SPC.
Really wonderful. The state of dust spreading to the northeast of Hellas (275~315W,-30~60) can be seen very well. This looks very
nice in Mr. Mike Hood's image.
In Japan, the vicinity of Aurorae Sinus (53W,-10) was seen, but the seeing was bad and the details were unknown. It was recorded
that the area around the SPC was covered with dust even in this vicinity. According to Mr. Miyahara's observation, the SPC is like
a return route, but the current SPC is like a return route. This image is a little too yellow, but not white. Looking at Mr. Einaga's
color image (bottom),the situation is recorded. It's a little too white, but it records the color change of SPC nicely.

The seeing was poor but I was able to see a number of things of interest:
- The SPC is now notably smaller and less conspicuous compared the my last view. The Lowell band continues to fragment and is no longer a uniform boundary around the cap.
- There seemed to be bright clouds in Thyle II and Ausonia- these were particularly apparent in Drawing 1 but they had faded somewhat by drawing 2.
- The Mare Chronium was visible as a darks break separating Thyle II,electric and Eridania (although I could see no boundary between either Electris or Eridania).
- The Mare Sirenum and Care Cimmerium were fairly dark and not uniform in appearance- particularly their northern boundaries which looked somewhat irregular.
- Trivium Charontis and Cerberus seen as vague streaks,Elysium was not particularly conspicuous.
- White haze present to the far north and on the fol. limb.

Syrtis Major and Hellas are featured in this image. Good Seeing,

Both images feature the Hellas/ Syrtis Major area. No dust or cloud activity to my eye.

In this image of Mars the Vallis Marineris is quite prominent, with Solis Lacus to its south.
More central is the large albedo area of Mare Erythraeum and to its south near the SPC is Argyre Planitia,
which although brighter than the surrounding regions seems to be quite obscured.
There is an overall obscuration/ murkiness over the albedo areas, suggestive of a low level of dust over the region,
but overall the classic patterns are quite plainly discernible. Nilokeras to the north is very clear.
The Vallis Marineris looks like there is also some dust pooling in low lying canyons, particularly in its tributaries in Aurorae Sinus.
The SPC seems a little offset from the polar axis with the possibility of some dust cloud over its periphery on the f side.
Its shrinkage of course continues unabated.

Nearly same CM (58) as my 7/30 image,so concentrated on visual observing instead of image derotation.
At an altitude of 58 degrees plus, the darker albedo features were popping through during moments of good summer seeing.

The limb at the Northernmost part of the disc appeared pretty bright white, this mist continued up the morning limb as far as the tip of Mare Cimmerium.
The entire of the morning limb appeared rather yellow to me,as if I was seeing dust suspended in the Martian atmosphere, more so further south.〓
Contrast of the darker features was somewhat muted still,I assume from dust fallout.
The SPC was very interesting, and difficult. There was the usual elliptical shape but I could see two projections,or maybe detached areas of ice, either side of the cap. One at around 290° which I took to be the end of Novus Mons, and the other (more prominent) at around 110° which I do not know the name of.
Between these two bright patches the boundary of the cap was not regular, but many tiny wisps of white could be seen laying over the surrounding darker surface, impossible to resolve clearly and as hard to represent on a sketch, but I have tried. The W80a blue filter was helpful with these details.
