解説(安達)/ Comment by Makoto Adachi
[Giancarlo Rizzato : Marano Vicentino (Vicenza) ITALY]
A spell of near perfect seeing last night allowed for some truly splendid views of Mars - the best ive had in some years.
I made a visual drawing of the view displaying the classic central Syrtis Major/Hellas view so famous in drawings of past visual observers such as Antoniadi.
Excellent seeing. Lots of fine details visible across the planet. Various delicate clouds visible in the B filter image.
Firstly my thanks to Ian Sharp and Anthony Wesley for their comment and discussion.
The original version of this image showed artifacts in places that i suspected were not real details,
and on comparison with some of my own previous work during August and images by others it confirmed there was an issue.
I suspect the problems here were a result of a few factors. Here are some details on changes i made:
1. Smaller align boxes in AS3 on the contrasted albedo areas mixed with larger align boxes overall.
2. A more careful alignment of the WJ alignment frame using the new 11.2.3 version.
I was quite surprised to see after a few attempts at slightly different angles this can affect small scale details.
I am begining to see how important it is to get this spot on - using the moons may be the only real solution as Anthony has mentioned.
3. I removed a few R and G images that were not as sharp as the best data during the capture period.
Overall its been an interesting afternoon working on this data experimenting and finally managed to produce a result i'm happy with.

Best seeing this night since start of observations in August.

Seeing was average tonight but transparency was poor.
Here is an image of Mars showing Olympus Mons.
Also in view are the three giant Tharsis volcanoes but these are covered with clouds.
Mare Sirenum is prominent. Solis Lacus is setting on the lower right.

From visual observing some haze apparent on the western and northern limb, not visible in the image.
Filters used=Baader R longpass and Baader Ir-UV cut

The pictures where taken with an embarrassing high frequency turbulence due to an approaching weather front.
Nevertheless, the clear conditions allowed to reveal Mars・blue hue, west of Hellas (notably the image of 23h12).

A delicate view over probably the most attractive marsian terrain - Syrtis Major.
The craters Huygens,Schroeter,Herschel and Gale can be identified, easily.
