First Jupiter and Saturn images taken at dawn and even after sunrise (under difficult conditions of contrast).
These are a test of the IR sensitivity of the ASI462MC camera, with a renewed set of filters:
- Astronomik IR 742 as the main long-pass filter
- Sloan z' to catch the monochrome part of the sensor, and to try photometric calibration.
The Astronomik IR807 would also be a perfect filter there, better than IR850
- The usual CH4 890 nm
- The Y filter, wich is a secondary photometric filter, that transmits from a transparency window between two H2O bands,
and is centered on another CH4 absorption band on the jovian planets.
This filter will exploit the very end of the camera's transmission with a better efficiency than my good old RG1000 filter!
z' is already more contrasted because it is partially sensitive to the CH4 band influence at 890 nm,
but the Y filter is really another CH4 filter (larger however).
This sensor is really much more sensitive in IR than any other I have tried. On another remark,
it's not mandatory to use only the mono part after 800 nm ; you can use the 742 or the Baader 685 for example,
just lower the intensity of the red pixels so the image is not too reddish.
